That, I think, was myvery first mental prop, which was, of course, based on theHen Fetsch classic Mental Epic. I absolutely loved carryingit in my pocket as a teen. I didn’t like that the littlesquares limited what you could write, but it always got agood reaction. Since then, I’ve immersed myself in theworld of mentalism and learned many, many differenttechniques for this classic plot.Which brings us back to Marc Oberon’s Mental Epic Pad. Thebasic principle and handling of this is essentially the sameas the Tenyo product. The difference is that materials aremore organic and that’s a huge difference. And this can bemade for stage, parlor, or close-up. In other words, it’ssort of like a professional’s version of the Tenyo item oran updated version of the original Hen Fetsch prop.On the DVD, Marc Oberon and Mark Elsdon explain how to makethree different sizes. Also, the stage demonstration isdone with foam board but you can use a variety of materials,such as file folders, so long as it’s made out of paper oris thin.The package includes an instructional DVD (approx. 40 min.)and a dozen small magnets needed to construct the prop. Asimplied above, you do not get a fully constructed pad in thepackage. You must make it. I haven’t done that, but itwill probably take you about twenty minutes. With practice,probably faster than that.The instructional DVD features a demo of the basic routine. In fact, it’s the same type of routine one would do with theaforementioned Tenyo product, including what one consider isthe major flaw. That flaw, as in most Mental Epic routines,is the third choice. I can’t explain that here, but thosewho are familiar with the classic know what I mean.
