Description

The DVD to go with this book could not find a good discription so here is a review from amazon. I will post a rip after this is seeded. If you do not believe in the existence of Qi and/or not interested in getting Qi, move on. This DVD is not for you. Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get on with the review.Short version: “Tai Chi PENG – Surfing the Soft Wave” is the best genuine Tai Chi standing training DVD out there, because it actually teaches you HOW TO RELAX. If you want to learn to develop Qi through Tai Chi standing, get the DVD now.Long version:”Tai Chi PENG – Surfing the Soft Wave” teaches a modified standing (zhan zhuang) method for developing Qi. The DVD spend the first hour and half on the theoretical framework regarding Qi, which was covered in Scott’s earlier book “JUICE – Radical TAIJI Energetics” already. The last 40 minutes or so is the practical drill, and it is PURE GOLD.The author of the DVD, Scott Meredith, is an tai chi teacher of Zheng Manqing / Benjamin Lo lineage with extensive experience in a number of other martial / body-mind disciplines, notably Russian Systema and YiQuan. Although the standing postures Scott teaches is 100% ZMQ style, there is a small but important influence from Systema and YiQuan. This is very important because this makes Scott’s method actually different than anything else out-there – it actually allows you to learn to relax (by yourself no less) by raising your awareness of your tension. This is key because without relaxation, you get no Qi development. The effectiveness of the method is immediate. I have been practicing ZMQ standing for 3 years or so now. After practicing this method for a couple hour, I already recognized the unfortunate fact that I have been way way too tense. Before, it’d usually take 30 minutes to an hour of standing for me to get the right feeling (relaxation, liveliness), and even then it’s not stable. Now, it takes 5 minutes or less, and the Qi sensations are also deeper. After practicing for 3 days, I actually had an experience when I felt a rush of Qi that made me say “woah” out loud – my wife looked at me funny. Conclusion: this is a great DVD for genuine Tai Chi Qi development. Anybody and everybody can do it, and it’s not very complicated. One word of advice if you do get it: do exactly what Scott tells you to do, don’t skip steps and try find your short cuts. can’t say more because it’ll just give the method away.
