It begins with The Make-up of Man a discussion with a number of internationally-respected experts such as Dr Joe Dispenza and Bruce Lipton on how the size of our frontal lobe, where we create and dream and make decisions, makes us unique as humans.Their studies show that our 50 trillion cells are like mini-individuals, each with a consciousness which is controlled by our attitudes and perceptions, which in turn are programmed by our upbringing and our environment. They talk about the connection between stress and illness, our ability to make thought more real than anything else and how we can become so obsessed with thoughts about the past or future that we create the very things we obsess about. We can therefore make changes in our lives and create different outcomes if we choose to take charge of our thoughts.Deborah Murtagh, NZ homoeopath and nutritionist, discusses taking responsibility in healing with different food choices. Robin Kelly, Auckland-based doctor and author who integrates Eastern with Western medicine, talks about doctors around the world reassessing the use of antibiotics, the overuse of which has now made many bugs develop an immunity which interferes with the running of hospitals and our own ability to heal ourselves.Part two, The Quick and Easy, focuses on how pills treat symptoms not the underlying cause. It is not anti-drug, but questions our often blind reliance on them. Interestingly, it looks at how prescription drugs can work as amped-up placebos and how pharmaceutical corporations are driven by their own interests, often at the expense of health. The third part, The Road Less Travelled, concerns options other than pills, how we now know we are more powerful than we have given ourselves credit for, how changing our belief systems can benefit our health, and how important it is to take action in that process. There is a lot to take in here. So two excellent aspects of this documentary are that it is well-structured with Theresa Grainger also a well-known therapist and speaker linking interviews together with scientific explanation. The other is that viewers are given an overview of how we are not the victims of our biology but the masters of it, together with some empowering personal experiences. Scientific research into the brain and how it works means we need to change much of the way we have traditionally approached illness, and as individuals understand our own power in the process of creating and healing it. This documentary is an excellent explanation of that.
