There have been edited proceedings of each of the previous four Congresses, all published by Brunner/Mazel (for details see pp. 497-498).The development and evolution of the Erickson Foundation and its Congresses have been a fitting tribute to the landmark contributions of Milton H. Erickson, M.D. Many maintain that what Freud meant to the theory of personality, Erickson meant to the practice of psychotherapy. Yet, Erickson’s popularity is a recent development. Erickson’s work became mainstream during his last years and then since his death on March 25, 1980. In fact, I believe the term “Ericksonian therapy” initially appeared in a book title in the 1982 published proceedings of the First Congress, which was held in December, 1980.Erickson’s legacy has been developed and advanced by his colleagues and intellectual heirs, many of whom were on the 1992 Congress faculty. The array of Erickson’s students is remarkable. It includes exemplary teachers and writers who have made original and important contributions.
