A bit of history first to put the creation of this effect into context; Back in the early 1980’s Richard Kaufman, Derek Dingle and Ken Krenzel created Holy P.O.D., a visual version of Alex Elmsley’s classic Point of Departure, from a card change effect idea by Gerard Majax. A card is sandwiched face-up between two face down cards, both of which have a large hole in their centre. Through this hole you can clearly see the sandwiched card from both sides. With a flick, the sandwiched card simply vanishes. As quick and as visual as that. The outer two cards are spread and shown front and back individually; the middle card has simply gone. It can now be reproduced from wherever you desire.This effect comes with an instructional DVD hosted by the mad chappy himself Pete Firman. I’m not a lover of DVD instructions, but Pete’s humour cracked me up and he goes into depth explaining the effect, the set-up, performance and other ideas. You also receive the specially gimmicked bicycle cards. When I first received this trick, I had the cards out of their packet without even playing the DVD instructions. I didn’t realise the method used in the trick until I actually watched the DVD itself and then saw how devilishly clever the principle is.
