Class OverviewBeing a Guru Mama means you live your life with a knowing that every moment of every day is an opportunity to live more joyfully. The dishes, the crying child, the dirty diapers, you name it. (Check out the Top 10 Big Ideas from the class below!) Your ProfessorJessica Durivage is fighting the good fight for the “Higher Self”, and wants us to find our “Inner Gurus” with her weekly podcast, Where is My Guru where she interviews leaders in yoga, leadership, service and wellness. How to Connect With Your Inner Guru MamaIn my last en*theos class, How To Be Spiritual While Changing Dirty Diapers, I dove straight into the deep end of the first few crazy months of motherhood, and how to truly embrace the lessons learned there, it’s an opportunity to deepen your spirituality and connection to life itself. From the round the clock mindful presence required to see what you are capable of accomplishing in 15 minutes (shower, laundry, dinner and a quick chat to grandma…), the gifts of motherhood are a path in itself to raise your vibration, uplift your consciousness and test just about any parts of your character (even the ones you did not know existed.) Guru Mama definition – One who shines bright in all her motherhood because she lives from within and how she raises her children and interacts with life as a whole is a direct expression of her soul’s purpose. This class will focus on YOU. How can you do it all, and (on most days) make it look and feel easy and natural. Am I saying that being a mother is easy? No way. But, just as in life (and motherhood is a part of life, even though most days we feel like we are living on another planet), we gracefully learn not to sweat the small stuff and savor the hundreds of not thousands of sweet moments in everyday. Bottom line, being a Guru Mama means you live your life with a knowing that every moment of every day is an opportunity to live more joyfully. The dishes, the crying child, the dirty diapers, you name it. Let’s get started. The Top 10 Big Ideas1 Um, You Gave Birth. HELLO!So, when did you forget that you are a total super woman? You grew a being in your body and gave birth to it. No matter how old your child is now – whether they are 5 or 55, you still did this. And, because of this it connects you to the millions of other women who have done the same thing and that, ladies, is power. That is empowerment. That is cause for us to remember and remind one another of the inner strength that we so humbly and often times too quietly carry. 2 You Don’t Need 90 Minutes to Work Out/Meditate/Do Yoga – You Need 5.It takes about three minutes to shift your consciousness. You can get an amazing full body workout in about 15 minutes. Truth: the 90 minute yoga classes (and lets get real, it was about three hours door to door) might be taking a back seat for a (long) while. And, if you are like me, your home practice looks sort of like your cat sunbathing in the front window. Just as in my first class I spoke about using your time skillfully and efficiently (and I talked about that more in regards to laundry and preparing dinner), the same goes for your personal time. 3 You Show Your Strength When You Ask For Support I am thankful for a loving and supportive partner and also for family close by. I know that not everyone has this level of physical support in their lives – so I want to share that FIRST. I was raised by a single mother and I know that for some, asking for support and what you need can be a little tricky at times and you have to get creative and selective as to where support is going to be most beneficial. BUT, one thing I have learned is that no matter how much or how little support you have, you probably 100% ain’t gonna get it if you don’t ASK. 4 What’s Next? Yeah, so I know I am totally rocking this Guru Mama thing, but ladies – your children are not going to want to sleep in your bed forever (and if they do, thats just weird). Now that you have done one of the most fulfilling and important jobs a human being can do, what are you going to do next (and you better make it awesome!) 5 Schedule It! You want to have coffee with a girlfriend next week? You want to try and make a yoga workshop next month? You want to remember to water the plants n Thursdays? Set yourself up for success – put it on a calendar. 6 The Original Mother – Connect With HerThe microcosm of being a Guru Mama is remembering that your highest teacher dwells within your own heart. The macrocosm of being a Guru Mama is remembering our first mother, Mother Earth and how she nurtures all of us unconditionally. 7 Your Space Is a Reflection of Who You Are When you are a mother, your home is your altar. Your home and your space need to be a reminder of who you are and what is important to you.8 There Is No Moment When You Have Veered Off Your Path I’ve met so many people who talk about situations they have faced in their lives – sometimes it’s a marriage, or a child they had too young or a job they lost, etc., and they see these things as if they somehow detoured from their true path and needed to find their way back to it. I know, it’s easy to wonder (at 3:37am in the morning when you are dealing with a screaming child, or at 3:37pm in the afternoon when you are dealing with a screaming child) “is this the path to God?” Always, simply and did I mention the answer is always – YES.9 Find Your TribeThis was actually #9 in my first class as well – as I think community is SO IMPORTANT when you set off to live a conscious, joyful, optimum and love-filled life. It’s so important to connect with others who desire to live from their own hearts as well – and, you know, it helps if they have kids too. 10 Being Your Own Guru Is Only a Breath Away Being your own guru is so much easier than, say, having one that lives in like India or something. Don’t get me wrong – I have met and I look up too amazing and wonderful teachers from all over the world – but what could be better than choosing to cultivate the relationship within your own heart? The one who just “knows” what your child needs, the one who can just tell when something is not quite right, the one whose inner compass about what the right thing to do for their child is almost all the time, if not always, spot on. Why wouldn’t you want to have that same relationship with yourself and your own life?
