In this book the essentials of Sanskrit grammar are carefully organized in 30 selected lessons. Interest in lessons is added by quotations of vocabularies from original Sanskrit, and the student is encouraged to read and memorize them. A great reference if you’re working with a teacher April 25, 2005 By KaulikaHart’s book is a great one – he explains many concepts more clearly than Whitney, and more deeply and accurately than other books such as Egenes; the problem is that it’s designed to be used in a classroom environment with an experienced teacher. There are no answer keys for the exercises, and there is no good pronunciation guide. This is because it was developed for use as a teaching tool for his classes.Future editions would be made much better by adding an answer key as an appendix, going to a larger format with larger Sanskrit type (which will help beginners who are shaky with the devanagari script), and adding a pronunciation guide, complete with an introduction to rules for pronouncing letters as well as words.Combined with a good teacher, however, this text is invaluable. If you’re doing it on your own, you may want to use Egenes or the Teach Yourself books to start, and use Hart as a reference or to deepen your knowledge on various grammatical rules.Please contribute back by OCRing and Spellcheck/Proofreading this book.
