Anyone can teach you bboy moves, but the style and flavor that makes a bboy different from other hip-hop dancers is what sets this project apart.Intro: The film starts with a brief presentation of breakin, its history, how it started in the seventies, and the many different phases it has gone through since. Interviews of Massive Monkees members, and of hip hop historical figures, presentation of Jeromeskee: what breakin means to him, how it impacted his life and what are the philosophical values behind Bboying that he wants to impart to the next generation.Chapters: Each of the 5 lesson chapters will begin by prefacing the history behind the combination to be taught: Interviews of a few Massive Monkees members, of hip hop pioneers and specialists (Michael Holman, Sacha Jenkins, Crazy Legs, Grandmaster Caz …), presentation by Jeromeskee as the main narrator, description of the moves and their various presentations in ciphers, battles or performances. Some of the MM members and hip-hop figures will re-occur throughout the film to spice up the narration and break from the classic “how to” video genre.Structure: Each chapter will feature multiple locations. In order to break up the structural monotony of the five lesson chapters we will have other archive footage of Jeromeskee’s most notorious runs and 2 or 3 three hip-hop figures will also return to comment on the moves – plugging in some humorous pieces from their interviews. The five segments will each feature a different student group, with the goal of showing the diversity of the people that take Jerome’s classes. We aim to connect to a good cross-section of viewers by showing students that look like them. Seeing the same move by amateurs makes the audience feel like this art is more accessible.Jeromeskee will show the eight-count top rocks, how the combinations are prefaced and connect to other moves for runs. The students will then execute the lesson and at this point we will cut to them exhibiting the combination in another setting. Jeromeskee will narrate as this action takes place. Shots from his biggest battles will be incorporated for emphatic impact.All of this leads to the fifth chapter – battle: “War Room” featuring Fever1 who was Jeromeskee’s original teacher from the time he was 12 years old. A final cipher will feature all the students and teachers in one room held at Vera Project in Seattle Center. Using the combinations from the previous five lessons, Jeromeskee lays out a true cipher. The diverse groups of classes, races and ages will be together on the same stage. A 7-piece live band will play behind them.After the climatic battles and ciphers we intend to allow Jerome to give his final thoughts. It will be a Spike Lee style monologue that expresses Jerome’s philosophy on breakin and how to achieve longevity with the dance.Format: 90 minutes, color. The film will be edited in such a way that it can accommodate various media and can be segmented to fit US TV requirements as well as DVD, web, mobile, streaming and download. In addition a soundtrack of original break beats will be released as a companion to the DVD in order to allow students to practice on authentic break beat music, at home in their own environment.
