Where was Tom Keen when I needed him!?As a taiji/neigong bum of twenty plus years, having studied in Taipei and the states with some wonderful teachers, I first heard about this neigong set about eight years ago in a book on taiji. The author claimed the set imparted the ability to withstand enormous blows, and that it provided real power. The catch–there’s usually a catch–the author wouldn’t reveal the exercises. They were only for his “inside the door” students. Fair enough, or maybe not. But that’s his right.Cut to several years later, when he kindly put me on to a student of his in the states, who began to teach me the exercises, then stopped. I subsequently found a wonderful teacher in the same style who learned the exercises from his father, and who taught me the complete set. Took about a year. It wasn’t cheap but I wasn’t too worried about the money. A guy’s gotta have his hobbies, right?Then through chance I saw this title and downloaded the book out of curiosity. Lo and behold, it’s the sacred set! Sure, there are some minor differences–Keen sequences a few exercises differently, but only a few, and he has somewhat different arm positions on two of the exercises. But if you learned the set from this DVD, you’d get the same benefits as you would from learning it from a teacher. Keen could have included a bit more about increasing the shocks the body is being offered but no doubt he was afraid of being sued.The demos are clear, this is easy to learn in this format, and while his book is good, the DVD gives you the exercises more clearly. If I’d had this eight years ago, I would have saved a lot of time and money. Though I also met great teachers and don’t regret the chase.If you want to put power into your taiji, develop the ability to withstand punishment, and improve your health, and if you’re willing to work–hard–this is a good DVD to use.When I saw this DVD my reaction was similar. The book BTW is a PDF  you can buy online. The DVD is better.I learned this set (not all of it as you will read) from a Japanese man who I learn some MA and Yoga trainings from.His version was 85% identical to this DVD’s way and 10% different in terms of order and how to hold the hands and minor variations etc. You are good at math so you can see that is only 95%…  The last 5%? The one form my IRL teacher left out!It was the “Monkey Climbs The Tree” AKA “Hump the Air and Climb and Bounce’ as I call it in my smart ass way .I was taught this set but was told it is part of a different qigong set. That is for Iron Vest (BTW you do need to do it often. I slack off and do it 4 times a week. Fine for health but not for the ‘invincible fighter’ aim)With Stone Warrior I had been doing about 40% of the moves shown on the DVD. It blew my mind to see this MA/Qigong hard body training shown like this. What an age we live in… The once kept secret MA workouts that do give amazing power and get your ass in shape like nothing else are now on DVD… LOL! I have been doing this for about a year now and it does work. This and kettle bells and you will one fit and fighting ready bastard in a year or two- maybe less! Stone Warrior is the longest and most difficult of the sets or forms contained within the program. Consisting of twenty-one exercises.
