[img][/img]Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/img]Product DescriptionTaken from http://www.thestage.co.uk/reviews/review.php/10223/shaolin-m…This new show from the soldier monks of the Shaolin temple is certainly more about the spectacle and less about the narrative than their previous annual London shows.The blurb is short and sweet, with a voiceover telling us about the wars these peaceful monks have endured, and how their kung fu is a spiritual response to the violence they have known and was originally developed to protect country and temple.Basing their movements on nature’s best fighting animals, the tiger, crane, snake, leopard and dragon – although I’m sure there was a couple of little monkey boys thrown in – 25 wood block-thwacking monks perform feats of daring, strength and extreme physical endurance just by channelling their chi (energies) in a mystical brain-body balance.They somersault and backflip, break bricks and metal poles over each others heads, balance on their fingertips, walk up and down stairs of knives, or balance on the tips of spears. There is also a human sandwich with the ingredients knife blades, monk, board of nails, monk, topped with a concrete slab that is subsequently smashed with a sledge hammer, leaving the monks with not so much as a grimace – although they have the audience wincing and cringing every step of the way.The scaffolding set hardly reflects the temples, pagodas and bamboo of China’s Songshan mountain ranges in Henan, where the monks train, and the hardcore techno music, although upping the pace and increasing excitement, is again far from spiritual.Watching the beautiful and mystical art form of these world renowned Zen Buddhist monks you could certainly pick up a fighting tip or two, but whatever you do don’t try this at home.Taken from http://www.shaolinwheeloflife.com/masters/media.htmlThe new show from Shaolin Wheel Of Life is coming to the Midlands this Autumn…’The Ultimate Masters Of Kung Fu’ ( TIME OUT ) return to Birmingham with a brand new show.
