Description

Serge Augier is a fairly well known and respected teacher of the Chinese Internal Arts. I cannot find the sales page for this, I bought it off Vimeo a few years ago, I think he has expanded this one hour demonstration and explanation of combat drills, theory etc. into a full length course (GB, anyone ? ) which one participant describes as follows on the Rum Soaked Fist Forum:“About a year and a half ago I found out Serge Augier was offering distance training and I signed up immediately. The training is delivered by way of Vimeo’s private channel function. The first year I began with basic hands – very simple and effective exercises to build the core qualities (wai gong). I was already doing lots of work like this but added it to my practice – which helped things along nicely. Like all good Chinese arts basics make everything else work. Da Xuan is great in that there is nothing to distract from the basics in the opening years of practice. It’s all very simple and very, very effective. Included in the basic hands were the Wu Xing, and also the basic Taiji elements (peng lu ji an). There are also many hours of footage from seminars that I got as a part of the course that gave practices for zhan zhuang, nei dan, shen gong, basic stepping, grounding, and much more. All of this stuff was quite familiar to me but presented in a way that was just making light bulbs go off left right and centre. The introduction to the broader elements of the school (outside of the martial arts) was really cool and includes medicine, geomancy (feng shui), divination (yi jing), and astrology (ba zi) on top of the self cultivation practices (wai gong, nei gong, nei dan, emotional training and shen gong).More recently, I had the great honour of hosting Serge here in Australia for the first time ever! He lived at my house for a week where corrected me and added further details to the practice as well as introducing me to broader topics and going deeper into theory and philosophy of the tradition. Words cannot accurately describe how amazing this experience was for me personally and I made many leaps forward in my practice during this week. The most noticeable thing for me was not Serge’s incredible skill set (and it is incredible!), but his personality. His presence just always lifted the room, full of humour and humility. I can’t really describe this element accurately, but the people who have met Serge will know what I’m talking about. If you’ve ever lived with a friend you know that even a week living together, their small annoying habits become very obvious. If you’ve ever spent time with any high profile teachers, there can also sometimes be an air of eliteness around them. Serge had none of these qualities – he was just a cool dude who was super fun to hang out with and enjoyed shooting the shit with me and my friends over a beer or two.”https://rumsoakedfist.org/viewtopic.php?p=409905&sid=4fa…So…two person exercises, some combat theory, his philosophy, that kind of thing. I learnt a few things, in spite of this not being an actual teaching tape.
