Aquaponics is a new take on hydroponics, where the sole source of nutrients (besides fish feed which can also be grown in the garden) comes from fish wastes. It is a completely closed system, which transfers when the ammonia saturated fish waste are broken down to usable nitrates and nitrites by the cyanobacteria within the developing root system of plants within the hydroponic grow bed.
