It provides a number of learning methods: performance by an entire band, by the cantaor (flamenco singer) on his own, or by a lone guitarist. Moreover, it is possible to eliminate the sound of the cantaor or the guitarist, in order for the student to be able to practice, accompanying the cantaor with his/her guitar, or singing with the accompaniment of the guitar playing. The course is directed and taught by Merenguito, a cantaor who is well-respected by the critics and public alike, and has been awarded several prizes.~~~A new method for learning the flamenco cantes (styles) in the most appropriate manner is already on the market: Paso a paso (Step by step). It is a perfect course for cantaores, percussionists and guitarists alike, as well as for enthusiasts of flamenco singing. “Cante flamenco Paso a paso” is taught by Merenguito, a cantaor (flamenco singer) who is well-respected by the critics and public alike, and has been awarded several prizes.”Cante flamenco paso a paso” is a didactic DVD collection that explains, in several volumes, each of the flamenco cantes, their rhythm, meter and quadrature, as well as the different variations that correspond to their geographical origins. The first volume, which is dedicated to cantes that belong to different parts of the Andalusian territory, is already on the market. It includes alegrías whose origins lie in Cádiz, tonás belonging to Triana (a Seville neighbourhood with a strong flamenco tradition) and the caña of Jerez de la Frontera, as a tribute to don Antonio Chacón. Moreover, it also looks at the tangos of Extremadura. It includes in-depth explanations of each of the cantes, step by step, in order to allow guitarists, cantaores and percussionists alike, as well as enthusiasts who decide to get started in flamenco, to learn their different structures, lyrics, intonations, rhythms and meters. This first volume –and all the ones that will follow- places DVD technology at the service of learning. Thus, it is possible to have access to three different ways of following the course. In the first, one can follow a performance by an entire musical group. The second makes it possible to follow the performance by the cantaor on his own, and the third one allows students to single out the guitar playing. In all of them, the meter will appear on the screen. In the case of the guitar playing, the chords that are played are also displayed. When the flamenco “apprentice” has understood and assimilated the explanations of each of the cantes, s/he can practice what they have learnt with the DVD. Cantaores will be able to lower the voice of Merenguito in order to sing themselves, using the details of the meter that appear on the screen to help them. Guitarists will be able to eliminate the sound of the guitar featured in the DVD to accompany Merenguito themselves, with the assistance provided by the meters and chords. The DVD includes a booklet containing the explanations of each of the cantes.Merenguito is featured with accompaniment by the guitarist Roberto Hernández and by the palmeros (rhythmic hand-clappers) J. Manuel Martínez Soler and Francisco Manuel Prieto.
