Often referred to as “meditation in motion,” Tai Chi is an exercise form that is based on a Chinese martial art that involves precisely executed soft, slow-flowing movements. Featuring three separate video programs on a single disc; Introduction to T’ai Chi, Basic Exercises and Simplified Short Form.  “T’ai Chi for Health and Fitness” presents a detailed overview of the basic philosophical principles, components, and techniques inherent in this controlled form of human movement.In this 2 hour video, the instructor spends the first hour and a quarter explaining the benefits of T’ai Chi and goes through all the exercises explaining how to do each one. This is a good beginner’s version of T’ai chi. It is not difficult and is suitable for just about anybody at any age. If you can stand and wave your arms, you can probably do these exercises. In the last part of the video he goes through his version of a short form,or series of exercises to be done in a consecutive manner flowing from one exercise to another.  His version of the short form only takes about 7 minutes to do as opposed to traditional long form that can take 20 to 30 minutes. It was designed for people who have limited room to do their exercises as opposed to people who exercise outdoors or in an exercise studio. Manny Fuentes is a licensed clinical exercise physiologist in the cardiopulminary rehabilitation program at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. This video was produced in cooperation with The American College of Sports Medicine.
