Description

Katy Bowman – Dynamic Aging: Simple Exercises for Whole-Body MobilityQuote:What if your pain and lack of mobility isn’t due to your age, but your habits? What if changing how you move can change how you feel, no matter your age? Dynamic Aging is an exercise guide to restoring movement, especially for healthy feet, better balance, and the activities of daily life. Biomechanist and movement teacher Katy Bowman shares exercises and habit modifications for varying fitness and mobility levels. Dynamic Aging:* Is geared to a 50+ audience* Includes exercises and postural adjustments that require no special equipment and include modifications for all fitness levels* Will teach you how to move for healthy feet, improved balance, and activities of daily life* Will help all readers move and feel betterAlongside Bowman’s instructions are the stories, experiences, and advice of four women over seventy-five who ve used these principles and exercises for years. Along the way they found recommended surgeries unnecessary, regained strength and mobility, and ended up moving more than they did when they were a decade younger. From hiking in the mountains to climbing ladders and walking on cobblestones with ease, each of these women embodies the book’s message: No matter where you’re starting, if you change how you move, you can change how you feel.Open for everyoneNumber of pages: 336Year of publication: 2017Url:https://www.amazon.com/Dynamic-Aging-Exercises-Whole-Body-Mo…Amazon rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars (124 reviews)Amazon 5 star review wrote:A must read for older adults AND for parents of young children. Wish I had had this information years ago! Best book I have read in quite a while. All the things we were taught about shoes, exercises, what we should and should not do when we get older (50+) have been WRONG! I first suspected this when I was told by a fitness trainer that I should get a shoe that would help me balance, and that I also needed orthotics to prevent a recurrence of plantar fasciitis. It occurred to me after a while that the shoes were doing the balancing for me and that my muscles were no longer needed and not being used. In short, they were wasting away. Recently, though, my pilates teacher started talking about Katy Bowman and Dynamic Aging, and how we have been taught to avoid things as we age (obstacles in house, throw rugs, climbing ladders) and not taking ANY physical chances because our bodies just couldn’t handle this any more. Well baloney and cheese (sanitized language for Amazon!)!!! I will be buying this book for my best friend and others. Just disappointed that the price has gone up so much since I bought my first copy in March, a month before Katy Bowman appeared on the Today Show…Guess that’s the power of TV, but I’m so glad she is able to spread her message to a much wider audience. I also feel this book would be very useful for parents of young children, to get them started on the right (foot)path because our bad walking, exercising and standing habits were learned as kidsAmazon 5 star review wrote:Over many decades of stretching and exercise, I’ve gathered a shelf of books on the topics and perused many others. Yet I cannot think of a more uniquely helpful book than this one . Most books of this ilk just give the reader a list of exercises, with instructions, photos, and some encouraging words. This book does much more by educating the reader about the mechanics of this/her body, what happens to it during disuse (quite different from aging, she points out), and how and why certain exercises actually work to improve matters. It’s like she respects your body AND your mind too! This motivated me to do the exercises rather than procrastinate because I can now see how they work. And BTW they do! My favorite chapter is the one on feet, too often neglected in other books, which she sees as the very platfrom of standing and walking, and gives simple-to-do exercises to loosen up the dozens of joints there. Anyone, a beginning or more advanced exerciser, has much to learn from this book. The book is engagingly written and does not overwhelm you with too many dozens of exercises, but the ones that are functionally the best.Amazon 5 star review wrote:I purchased the kindle copy several days ago and now have sent paperback copy to 3 friends. THIS IS A WONDERFUL BOOK!May you find the LIFE and LOVE,Aeon
