Anderson on January 21, 2008As a reflexologist, I have been a follower of Inge Dougan’s work for many years and also taken classes from her. This book is a compilation of all her work and is an excellent book for both beginning and seasoned reflexologists as well as anyone else wanting to learn how to use reflexology for improved health and well-being.Basically, the first half of the book is an overview of Chinese medicine in an easy-to-understand and interesting approach. Each of the five elements (fire, water, metal, earth, wood) is defined along with diagrams showing the energy pathways or meridians in the body and any problems that may be associated with this meridian. The corresponding muscles associated with the meridians are also diagramed and the other corresponding characteristics of an element, such as sound, sense organ, flavor, smell, climate and colour, are also noted. The next section concerns mapping the reflexes on the feet. The different sections of the foot are explained with their appropriate meridians and corresponding organs. There are plenty of diagrams and the explanations are easy to understand and interesting. The last section of the book covers the treatment session and is a thorough explanation of the different techn5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Learning ReflexologyBy Carolyn Maloney on August 23, 2009I teach Reflexology at a local Community College and am always looking forbooks to recommend to my students. This one was perfect due to the fact thatI generally start the classes with Acupressure then go to Reflexology.4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent book full of useful info to keep you healthy!By shorty on January 29, 2015I have several books on reflexology and yet I still learned lots from this book. My only issue with it is the diagrams could be a lot clearer and larger in size.I’m surprised that it has such a low sales number.5.0 out of 5 stars Best book in the subject best material on the meridian …By nicolas prassinos on September 11, 2014best book in the subject best material on the meridian points first time clearly understood great for reflexology adding knowledge and info great work very happy for the perfect time delivery excelentpackage thank you5.0 out of 5 stars Wish i could give this book 10 starsBy (PP) Undercover Cat on April 25, 2016on saturday april 23, i purchased a paper version of this book for a friend and the ebook for myself.before ordering it, as always, i read reviews. one person was disappointed that it was more about TCM than Reflexology, so i knew to expect that. that reviewer was correct, but perhaps she already knew a lot about the meridians and Tao and Chi, the Elements and Seasons. i didn’t know anything about the TCM meridians, or how they compared with today’s reflexology. i was thrilled to read the beginning chapters telling about TCM, even though references to reflexology were comparatively sparse. Now in Chapter 5, Dougans is laying out the TCM version of the reflexes on the feet based on the meridians versus zones, piecing everything together, so she is talking about reflexology a lot.i have looked through all the reflexology charts in image searches on Google several times, and ran across TCM reflexology charts, also meridian charts along with zone charts, both obviously different and much more intricate. at that time, i decided zone therapy would be more learnable and up my alley. read Fitzgerald’s book as background and followed the modern reflexology zone-therapy-based protocols taught at excellent workshops. but i have respected TCM from a distance for a long time, the absolute dedication of the Chinese to rigorous and precise thinking, so now that i am comfortable with zone therapy reflexology, when i happened onto this book, i jumped at the chance to include a TCM perspective, partially to understand the differences between their foot charts and zone therapy foot charts. Dougans really knows how to compare and contrast. i am now able to consider the more complicated meridian structure, and, using starting and ending points of each meridian on the body, apply them to the foot, although not yet to the hand. now i am able to understand why TCM maps the heart reflex to an apparently nonrepresentative place on the foot, and i have to say that i feel more comfortable with the TCM charts now than the modern reflexlogy zone therapy charts.however, this doesn’t mean that i plan to leave zone therapy as a protocol, rather blend the two, and sometimes alternate between protocols. i really only work weekly on three people: my mom, a friend, and myself, as well as other people sporadically, maybe 30 people total since november of 2015, not counting about 20 people across six days of workshops. i’ve also been looking into Vertical Reflexology, VRT, which applies pressure to reflex points from the dorsal side of both the hands and feet, have just begun including VRT with the regular zone therapy reflexology sessions, as is recommended by that protocol. i’m pretty much looking for a broad perspective of reflexology, and to intermingle protocols depending on the situation at hand.i’m about 2/3’s of the way through Dougans book and would give it 10 stars if i could. in something like 42 hours since ordering it, it has opened up a new way of looking at the body that i had previously avoided as being over my head, and almost surely would have been at the beginning of this journey. Dougans can definitely explain things very well, to let people who are new to concepts of TCM sink their teeth in and consider it. i can hardly contain my excitement.5.0 out of 5 stars Great bookBy Gail L. Lanning on February 13, 2012The book is totally new and packed with everything I need to know about how to integrate reflexology into my massage practice. Quick service – good price.5.0 out of 5 stars “New is Really OLD”By Brenda Moore on December 21, 2014An interesting, comprehensive alternative to”medicine as usual” using wisdom thousands of years old. I am looking forward to having the time to read it carefully and apply these ancient remedies.5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for ReflexologyBy Shay Johnson on September 24, 2013If you are interested in TCM then this book is great. It ties the art of reflexology into the theory of TCM and meridians. I thought it was quite helpful.
