Description

Psychology 1504 : Positive Psychology, Harvard College, Spring 2005-2006, Tal D. Ben-ShaharThe study of happiness or of enhancing the quality of our lives, has been dominated by pop-psychology (much charisma, but relatively little substance) and academia (much substance, but isolated from most people’s everyday lives). Positive Psychology, the scientific study of optimal human functioning, creates a bridge between the Ivory Tower and Main Street, making rigorous academic ideas accessible to all. Tal Ben-Shahar, instructor of the most popular course at Harvard University, discusses the findings of current research on the science of happiness and introduces ideas and tools that can actually make a difference in one’s lifeFrom the Course Syllabus:”The course focuses on the psychological aspects of a fulfilling and flourishing life. Topics include happiness, self-esteem, empathy, friendship, goal-setting, love, achievement, creativity, mindfulness, spirituality, and humor.”—————————————————————————————————————————————————————-*** Uploader Note ***the product is divided to 3 parts:1. Required Readings [courtesy of Veil] ——————————————————–Since i am still studying, i thought i would use the advantages of being able to access published science journal articles, save them and bring them here.Note: This is ALL, that’s right ALL, of the articles from both science journals as well as open-to-the-public web pages (like the ones from psychologytoday.com). The web pages by the way have folders with heaps of little images and graphics, etc, that’s why there are so many files. I could’ve deleted them but i…cbf smilie. The only thing that is missing is the actual text books. I looked everywhere but could not find any online versions. What i have included though is the instructions on what to read in these books should you happen to get your hands on them. The books are:Maslow, Abraham – Towards a Psychology of Being.Nathaniel Branden – The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem. —> We have the audio but not the actual book.Tal Ben-Shahar – The Question of Happiness. If we could somehow get them here, or a few that would be great. Hint, hint people…smilieAlso i have arranged all the material into folders, eg, week 1, week 2, week 3…etc.The subject goes for 11 weeks, hence there are 11 folders, with the required readings for each week in each folder.Better than clumping all the readings into 1 folder with no order or sequence. Also, makes it easier to follow the lectures.P.S. Don’t get disheartened when reading the journal articles. Many of these will be very hard to read because they are intended for other graduates. Stick with it and take what you can.[3 DOCs-7 TXTs-18 PDFs-22 full HTML files (with various layout files)]—————————————————————————————————————————————————————-3. On-Site Documents———————————-these files are *freely* available at http://isites.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k14790&page…i uploaded this for convenience reasons.it contains Harvard’s ‘Positive Psychology’ lectures slides, the syllabus, the midterm exam, and some more readings…[14 PPTs-2 HTMs-1 DOC]—————————————————————————————————————————————————————-Enjoy !!
