Clearly this is not a new task as it has been tried on numerous occasions before. What is different about the Renaissance of Psychology is that Pransky attempts to accomplish three distinct tasks. The first is to provide us with a new to the application of psychology as a science. The second is to form the basis for a new approach to the application of psychology within clinical settings for the treatment of disorders. The fhird task is to build a philosophical basis allowing us to construct a view of the future based on health rather than illness. In the Renaissance of Psychology, Pransky accomplishes all three in a concise, easily readable volume which is eminently understandable. The book takes a new and exciting course which navigates the waters of psychological theory and application….” Quote:This is a wonderful resource for 3 Principles information. Anyone can read and enjoy this book. I am not a professional psychology trained individual but the 3 Principle information in this book is excellent. I read this book before I purchased it and then HAD to buy my own copy for my library. I know that I have had insights after reading this book. Anyone intersted in learning more about the Three Principles should definitely consider this book.Quote:George Pransky tells us that, instead of focusing on the problems of our lives and learning new ways to solve them, we can shift our focus to the processes of our mind that underly and perpetuate the problems. He teaches us about the nature of thought and different kinds of thinking, about how our lack of understanding of how the mind works and how our thinking influences and frequently blocks our natural underlying mental health. This is a practical psychology that has a spiritual basis–an understanding of what Buddhist would call causality. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is searching for new insight for improving his/her psychological and spiritual life.Quote:This book completely changed my idea about helping people who are struggling with depression or anxiety, but it has been most helpful to ME. I am a physician but have always been interested in psychology, and over the years have tried “amateur psychology” with myself, my wife, friends, and patients. “Let’s get down to the root of these feelings, maybe something in your past, and let’s work through it.” or “Let’s look at these fears and make sense of them” (i.e. see how silly they are and they will go away.) These approaches made so much sense it took me years to admit they were usually worthless, and sometimes harmful. In this book, Dr. Pransky, a compassionate and motivated psychologist, makes the same discovery in his practice. But then he learns a new approach – from Sydney Banks – and his life and practice totally change. Spoiler alert: he discovers you can’t really change the CONTENT of your thinking – the solution is to STOP THINKING so much. Sounds simple, but it really is the most amazing thing – and it works. This book was for me foundational – let me see his progress and understand the basis of the psychology – even though the ideas are better “explained” in other, later books by Pransky and others, this is one of my favorite since it is so “raw.” He’s like a kid in a candy shop who just tasted candy for the first time. I love reading it, and it changed my MIND about a lot of things. I would say, however, that but the real changes in my LIFE came when I read “The Relationship Handbook.” (Also by Pransky) That little teeny book puts these lofty ideas into practice in relationship. It made an immediate change in my marriage, and has since spread into my professional life as well.I’ve come to believe this set of concepts is at the basis of a number of religions and is intimately associated with my own spirituality –but that is a totally optional way of looking at this. It just works. HIGHLY recommended if you are a physician, psychologist or social worker or just someone who is sick of feeling up and down, worrying, having regrets, having trouble making decisions, being agitated, demanding, angry, or any of the hundreds of other ways we suffer from our own thinking.https://www.amazon.com/Renaissance-Psychology-George-S-Prans…                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   )
