Denise Linn’s signature charm and joy de vivre spring forth from the pages, and her daughter Meadow brings fresh warmth and enthusiasm to this compendium of yummy, wholesome recipes and wise mystic insight. We all eat. Every day. And this is one of those game-changing books that has the potential to forever alter the way you approach this perpetually-present aspect of your life. You’ll not only shift your views about food itself, but about the whole experience of obtaining, preparing, and enjoying food. For soul-spelunkers and spirituality-chasers, what could be more gratifying than a blueprint for creating an entire mindfulness practice around the ordinarily plebeian act of nourishing ourselves?Reading The Mystic Cookbook reminded me of Leo Tolstoy’s classic essay, What Is Art?, in which he asserts that an artist can’t help but “infect” his creation, and then the audience of that art is immediately infected by the contagious energy the artist has imbued it with. Not only is The Mystic Cookbook a gorgeous work of art in itself — one that most definitely has the energy of its two creators woven into every page . . . but this kind of alive, gorgeous energy is precisely what Denise and Meadow show you how to infuse into your meal preparation. Your meals are works of art, and you, as the artist, can create truly magical and transformative cuisine with the power of your vibrant, loving intention! The Mystic Cookbook is brimming with tantalizing photographs, seductive preparation rituals, and easy-to-follow recipes for fabulous dishes. It’s thoroughly infused with the grace, joy, and generosity of spirit of its authors . . . and no reader will escape becoming infected by the glorious energy of these two beautiful souls sharing their passion. I’d rave some more, but I can’t wait another second to give my newly-inspired culinary skills a whirl. Bon appetite to me!Lisa McCourt, Joy Trainer and author of Juicy Joy – 7 Simple Steps to Your Glorious, Gutsy Self5.0 out of 5 starsBringing the sacred to everyday lifeBy Allie Chee on December 6, 2012Quote:I’ve been studying traditional and alternative approaches to health for 20 years. I have had the pleasure of training with her personally and participating at retreats at her ranch in CA. This book is one she wrote with her amazingly talented daughter Meadow. And I was blessed to have many scrumptious meals created by Meadow while at the ranch. The fact that they teamed up to create a book about the energy of food is exactly what is needed in this world!Rather than a focus on calories or carbs or other restrictions, this book celebrates the energy of food. The nutritious and delicious recipes are easy to make, and the concepts of how to prepare the energy filled food (through kitchen feng shui, invoking your kitchen angels and oh so much more) make the creation of meals a sacred act! And I have experienced how foods made in the way taste better, and are more satisfying! In addition, this book is STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS!! The format is a banquet for the eyes, and really encourages the non-chef in you to make something beautiful to eat, and served in a sensuous and sacred setting, creates food that is enjoyed on many levels. If you are looking to experience life force chi at a deeper level, you need this book!I can’t wait for the Food Network to ask them to do a Mystic Cooking show!!5.0 out of 5 starsThe Mystic Cookbook: far more than a gorgeous cookbook – it’s an intriguing how-to to harness the “magic” in our worldBy Jeannette Bon Durant on December 29, 2012Quote:I love this book! Wow! Who wrote this unique and spiritually-focused cookbook? I felt compelled to look up more about the authors – Denise and Meadow Linn. I knew immediately that this extraordinary book would be traveling with me from the coffee table to the bed table with an occasional trip to the kitchen.I was drawn to the gorgeous cover of The Mystic Cookbook and especially to its intriguing subtitle, “the secret alchemy of food.” I was expecting an interesting read along with a bunch of recipes, but upon opening the book, each colorful and masterfully-designed page and its depth of wisdom simply blew me away!It is more of a “cookbook” about life perspective and connecting to the magic around us — offering a gateway for our spiritual journeys. Wonderful recipes…yes, but much more. The authors explain how infusing meals with intention can affect the mood and energy of those at the table (hmm…increase harmony or happiness; enhance romance, anyone?) and that what and how you eat can make a huge difference in your spiritual journey. Do you remember how your mother’s food tasted better than when someone else prepared the exact same recipe? Well, they say THAT is food infused with your mother’s love…true comfort food affecting you on a cellular level! Through practical exercises for meals and dining, and with revelations of ancient knowledge that have been recently supported by science, the book underscores the understanding that a viable life force surrounds and runs through all things — and that it is able to be harnessed by each of us for better health, happiness and growth. This power can be infused into your food for transformation. The 40+ recipes are easy-to-prepare with healthy natural foods. It has a number of dairy-free and gluten-free recipes, but the focus is on the broadest cross-section of diners seeking healthy (and perhaps magical) dishes. Many recipes are vegetarian, but the recipes are not completely suitable for vegans because some include the use of eggs. There also are a couple of wonderful salmon and chicken dishes.I’ve enjoyed several recipes so far. Call me crazy, but I felt a sparkly sense of happiness from them…it is real? Well, that is a principle of the wisdom shared by Denise Linn, an internationally-renowned author and speaker, who wrote the book with her daughter, Meadow Linn, a chef and food columnist. Denise, the author of 18 books including the best-selling “Sacred Space,” shares her spiritual knowledge and lifetime of training in native and ancient cultures — a journey that began following her near death experience and resulting awareness. Meadow brings great creativity and a reverence for the vibrancy of food, selecting specific foods and spices for their effects. Her approach to cooking is based on the wisdom of how it can magically transform your life on a cellular level.Recipes are interspersed throughout the text. There are a wide range of topics, a few of which include: the alchemy of color; the feng shui of your kitchen and dining space; law-of-attraction meals to invite abundance; musical pairing; creating vibrational harmony with communal cooking; mood-food connections; and using food as a trigger for joy, among many others. Even the preface and introduction were riveting to me. This delightful duo clearly writes from their hearts, and it shows in this visually beautiful and thought-provoking book. I believe it will fundamentally change how we all perceive food, meal preparation, and the energy field surrounding us.
