During the progression of the disease, people with Parkinson’s may experience a variety of cognitive changes. How can care partners help their loved ones with Parkinson’s disease to cope with such changes? This program is presented in recognition of National Family Caregivers Month.What you will learn:• Understand the types of cognitive changes that typically occur in people with Parkinson’s disease.• Explore recent research concerning the effects of both cognitive training and physical exercise on cognitive decline in Parkinson’s disease.• Identify practical strategies to improve day-to-day functioning for people experiencing cognitive decline and Parkinson’s disease.Meet Dr. Gilbert:Rebecca Gilbert, M.D., Ph.D., is Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology, Pathology and Psychiatry at NYU Langone Medical Center, and NYU Langone Parkinson’s & Movement Disorders Center. In addition to caring for people living with Parkinson’s disease as a movement disorders specialist, Dr. Gilbert is involved with a variety of research studies in Parkinson’s. Dr. Gilbert received her medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University and her doctorate in cell biology and genetics at the Sloan Kettering Institute. She completed her residency in neurology and subsequently, a fellowship in movement disorders at the PDF­-funded program at Columbia University Medical Center.The video is an audio presentation with synced slides.
