Description

Carlos Castaneda was a hugely influential explorer of personal development, fringe consciousness and non-ordinary states. He is sometimes said to be the founder of the New Age movement. Through a series of ten books, he explored the path to becoming what he called a ‘sorcerer’ or a ‘person of knowledge’. He claimed (probably falsely) to have been taught the gnostic tradition of the Yaqui Indians by an old shaman called Don Juan Matus. The Teachings of Don Juan is the first book in the series. It tells the story of how Castaneda as an anthropology student meets Don Juan, takes peyote with him and struggles to come to turns with the unfamiliar realities he encounters.
