Description

Uploaded with ImageShack.usStein’s plan is to combine a culinary journey with a trip into his family history. His great-grandfather, for example, was born in Düsseldorf, sadly too early to appear as an extra in Auf Wiedersehen Pet.Stein visits restaurants and food suppliers, revelling in German traditions and culture. For instance, learning what they eat before a penalty shoot-out.In Frankfurt, he visits the Kleinmarkthalle, a fabulous indoor market with more than 60 stalls selling a huge variety of cheese, meat, bread, vegetables, fish, exotic fruits, wine, spices and flowers. Basically their version of Farmfoods.Rick also tries his hand at the area’s signature Grüne Soße (Green Sauce), made from oil, vinegar, salt, sour cream, and various herbs, and served cold with boiled potatoes as an accompaniment to either hard-boiled eggs or roast beef brisket. It explains why you see so very few German restaurants in Britain. This new series sees the respected haddock sizzler set off on a tour exploring the ins and outs of German cuisine. Whether he cooks a wiener schnitzel in lederhosen is unclear. He starts off in Hamburg (struggling to think what food is associated with that place), travelling to the coast, down to Düsseldorf, and on to Frankfurt and the Rheingau, the region famous for its fine wines and inviting taverns, much like Nuneaton.
