Rosemary Gaddum Gordon, D.B.O., M.A.Rosemary has been helping people to see more easily since 1968 when she qualified from Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England with a diploma in orthoptics. (An orthoptist works with ophthalmologists to teach people how to improve the coordination of the two eyes.)In 1973 while practicing as an Orthoptist and teaching Hatha Yoga in Santa Fe, NM, she met a Bates teacher. Since the underlying approach of yoga and orthoptics were contradictory, she was pleased that Bates seemed to meld the two. (It pleased her even more when the Bates teacher told her she could get out of her glasses.) Much to her delight Rosemary discovered after studying with him that he was right, and passed her driver’s license exam without correction. In 1981 she received a Masters degree in Vision Therapy from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA. She studied Gestalt Psychotherapy and Vision; her thesis explored the application of psychophysical therapy on myopia. In 1985 Rosemary collaborated in the development of an in-house workshop for people who work on computers, to help relieve their eye and back strain.She is a member of the Association of Vision Educators and a founding member of the faculty for The Vision Educator Training Institute. She has been a guest on many TV and radio shows and her work discussed in several print media (most notably The Boston Globe, The Portsmouth Herald and Body and Soul). She writes a column called Vision Tips for Earth Star Magazine. Rosemary loves to learn and bring new skills to her work with students. She finds that Reiki, Educational Kinesiology, Focusing, CranioSacral Therapy and Self Regulation Therapy are all helpful resources in teaching people to see more comfortably and clearly.
