He did a lot of research for this book and gave good visuals throughout. He tells us that cardio is not the best exercise for our bodies but some of the most simple movements progress to be the best workout. I am a fitness fanatic and could relate to most of the principles in this book, but was also intrigued by the things that were new to me or that I didn’t realize in the past. One of those being Principle #1 – Mimic Ancestral Movements. This principle made absolute sense to me as it was being explained. If you look back to the hunters-gatherers, they always had good physique due to consistent low-impact weight-bearing “organic fitness”. They also had no (or minimal) shoes, making walking and running more difficult and engaging almost every muscle in the body.Another principle that I liked was #4 which tells us the four classifications of movements. These movements are pushing, pulling, bending and extending. All exercises need to incorporate these movements for overall muscle strength. Why make exercise harder than we need to when most movements can be put into these four categories. Several exercises are discussed and have graphics explaining these movements. If you want a researched guide to strength and muscle building, this is the perfect book. Mike Sheridan does a great job of explaining every principle, giving examples and having graphics. He tells us the difference between building strength and building muscle and essential timing for training and rest periods. I plan to incorporate these principles in the way I work out because it makes sense. Another great book by Sheridan!5.0 out of 5 starsSmart advice and honest methods to get you where you want to be.By Heather G TOP 1000 REVIEWER on December 5, 2015When it comes to losing weight or getting in shape, there is a plethora of advice and gimmicks out there, but most of it isn’t worth the paper it is printed on – or the time it takes up to read it, or try to implement it. There are supplements, programs, subscription services, you name it – it’s out there. Weight loss it big business, and it costs us big time. What if there was a way to get around that? To get back to basics and find an honest, and consistent way to get your body into the shape you want it to be?Mike Sheridan’s “1% Fitness” is the 3rd book in a series that aims to do just that, and after having read all three, I have to admit – it makes sense. When we try to lose weight, there is conventional wisdom that preaches low calories and high exercise, yet often this approach backfires and we end up GAINING weight instead, or not losing what we should. Why? Sheridan goes over all of that and offers sound methods to get around it, and get back to where you want to be.A valuable book, series actually, that can benefit anyone looking to get in better shape or lose weight.5.0 out of 5 starsMike Sheridan Never DisappointsBy Alex on September 29, 2015Mike Sheridan’s books are quickly becoming my go-to staples for creating a healthier lifestyle. His newest one, 1%Fitness, goes over facts and myths about fitness. His book is very thorough and well thought out. I love that he isn’t afraid of challenging society’s views on health and fitness, and he always comes at it from a researched point of view. I especially like 1% Fitness because I’m terrible about sticking to a workout schedule. I’ll be really motivated and invested for a few weeks, and then I don’t see the gym for a few months. It’s a vicious cycle that I could never seem to get out of, but thanks to this new book, I feel like I have some new knowledge to help maximize my time and effort.I really liked that this book focuses on how to find time to exercise and what it is you need to do to see results. It reinforced how important posture is and also focused on weight training versus cardio. I hate cardio, but I typically find myself on a treadmill at the gym because I thought it was so good for you. It turns out I can spend more time on weight lifting and interval training so I don’t get bored and see results faster! Another great thing about this book is all the scientific data about fitness. Mike Sheridan has really done his research; he knows what he’s talking about and now he’s sharing it with the rest of the world. This has definitely been an eye-opening experience for me. I gained so much insight from reading it the first time that I plan to apply some new things to my regimen and then read this book again to go over anything I may have forgotten. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable author, Mike Sheridan is the guy for you. 1% Fitness has changed the way I see working out. I’m really looking forward to using the online component part to boost my exercise routine and start seeing results!5.0 out of 5 starsI’m glad I read this when I did- it helped me address a personal health problemBy Mana G on December 27, 2015I”ve been enjoying Sheridan’s books thus far. He comes in with both his personal experiences and a researched point of view to challenge a lot of society’s old wive’s tales about health and fitness. I’m happy to say that, because of my own experiences, I agree with what he’s preaching. Even better than that he gives examples (with properly formatted pictures) of exercises you can do- at home, and with little to no equipment. But what I’m actually grateful for (that was so unexpected) is that as I was reading through I learned the ‘why’ of a problem I had been having with my feet (not anything terribly painful, but I’ve begun to notice a shift in the way my toes are aligned). Not only did Sheridan address this with what was wrong, he also explained why it’s bad and some exercises to help combat it. I honestly didn’t expect to read that going into the book and now I’m so grateful I did. That small tidbit gets this book my full recommendation. The rest of the content is very beneficial as well- as I wrote before, there are a lot of exercises that you can do at home (or at a coffee break) with little to no equipment, and they will benefit you a lot more than an hour on the treadmill while weakening your joints. This is obviously much better than a Pinterest workout (the ladies reading this know what I’m talking about) and it will explain to you the ‘why’ of what you’re doing. Again, this gets my full recommendation.*As a reader of a lot of Kindle books I feel the need to point out that all of the content in here is well formatted and well edited.
