Berklee Music – Beginning Improvisation Motivic Development

Starting Out with Motivic Development
[1 DVD – ISO]

Description

This is a straight up DVD (disk image) from a world-class and world renowned school of music.  It is *not* instrument specific and certainly presumes that you are a serious student of your instrument with full background knowledge of music theory.  It covers a range of topics and gives examples – mainly of a saxophonist, Professor Ed Tomassi (who also lectures and presents the material), accompanied by a pianist.  Interestingly, though the concepts are presented as tools for improvisation, any musician will quickly see how these ideas can be of paramount importance in non-improvisational settings such as composition and song-writing.  Naturally, they are indispensable for those interested in improvisational styles, including (but by no means limited to) jazz.  Professor Tomassi’s style is straightforward but his presentation is sure to provoke a lot of thought in your mind if you’re a serious musician.*Note on the file format – to me this is an ISO because when I burn the folder to DVD the disk plays in my DVD player.  I apologize if there is a better term for this format, but the video is there, in high definition.
